On 30 November 2015, a piece ran on ABC Television News about the recent partnership between Mona and the Macquarie Point Development Corporation. The journalist’s focus was on the alleged lack of opportunity for local architects and the alleged lack of transparency in the process.
For the record, the partnership between the corporation and Mona builds on the extremely successful partnership that arose through Dark Mofo, which brought 76,000 people through Dark Park over the course of the festival and positively engaged them with the site. Mona is NOT being contracted to provide architectural input to Macquarie Point. The creative team will be developing creative designs for the activation of Macquarie Point’s public spaces to ensure they are used and enjoyed by the people of Hobart and its visitors for years to come. This work requires placemaking, artistic curation and creative design skills, which is an extremely rare mix.
As the corporation and Mona are in the process of finalising contract details for this work, other details remain commercial-in-confidence.
